You won’t want to miss the first 2011 membership meeting of Silicon Valley Taxpayers’ Association.

San Jose City Councilman Pete Constant recently made national headlines when he refused to hire a $70,000-a-year administrative assistant to answer his phone, make photocopies, and handle other routine office chores. Citing the city’s current budget shortfall now projected at $100 million,  Councilman Constant said he would prefer to answer his own phone and use some of the money saved to provide direct services to the residents of District  1.

Councilman Constant will discuss the continuing fiscal crisis and budget reforms needed.  A question-and-answer period will follow his remarks.

  • Admission is free to SVTA members who have paid their 2011 membership dues.
  • Free to current members who renew their annual membership at the door.
  • Free to new members who sign up and pay their dues at the door.
  • $10 for non-members ($15 per couple).
